Robert Clatworthy R.A (1928-2015)
Sculptor, draughtsman and teacher, born in Bridgwater, Somerset. He studied at West of England College of Art, 1944–6, Chelsea School of Art, 1949–51 and Slade School of Fine Art, 1951–4. Clatworthy’s mother-in-law was the stage star Gertrude Lawrence, his wife, Pamela, also being an actress. Went on to teach at Royal College of Art and West of England College of Art. He was also governor of St Martin’s School of Art and head of department at Central School of Art and Design. Had first exhibition at Hanover Gallery in 1955 with Rosemary Young, and also showed at Basil Jacobs Gallery, RA and Austin/Desmond Fine Art. Thompson’s Marylebone specially featured Bob Clatworthy’s work in The Sculpture Show, 2003. Major works in London are in Finsbury Avenue and in Alton Housing Estate,
